Classical Guitar Recorded Music

Suggested Free Online recordings (MP3)

More Suggestions from guitarist Dale Reagan

  • start with what you can afford (duh!)  In this case I have listed a number of Classical Guitar Web sites with free offerings
  • As stated elsewhere on this site, I suggest starting with recordings that cover many styles or periods of music - this list below adheres to this by providing a number of Italian and South American artists links
  • The Agentina/Uraguay link is in Spanish - you can download complete music scores for the music and listen/view a number of videos as well
  • The Italian project is for recordings only.  I know several of the guitarists and I have found their work to be quite enjoyable.

A guitar festival in Argentina (2007) offered NEW repertoire (traditional music notation scores) for downloading (PDF files) as well as sample video of the works.  The site features Guitar music from Argentina and Uruguay and is hosted on a newspaper web-blog site.   The music should provide some new challenges for all guitarists.  NOTE - the site is only offered in Spanish...

Classical Guitar Web Compilation (CGWC) This project originates from the collaboration of four Italian guitarists (Luigi Attademo, Christian Porqueddu, Giulio Tampalini and Christian Saggese) and is a completely free record product.  It consists of recorded selections from each of the four Italian artists and is distributed as MPEG Layer 3 (MP3) files.

CGWC Full tracklist includes music of:  Fernando Sor, Domenico Scarlatti, Luigi Legnani, Mauro Giuliani and Angelo Gilardino.

Whether you are a performer or not,  I believe that it is quite helpful to listen to recordings (AND live performances!) by NON-guitarists as well as guitar duos and ensembles.  Listening to recording by any of the currently or previously recognized great musicians on any instrument can be quite helpful in your growth as a musician.  Some suggestions follow and include recordings of solo piano, string ensemble, solo cello, guitar duo, banjo! and bluegrass gospel!:
