I believe that Ida Presti was reputed to have "invented cross string trills but I have heard it said (was it Matanya Ophee maybe) that there were earlier examples. If so the early musicians would have had rules and solutions.
Can anyone shed light on this interesting question ??
Mauro Giuliani, Studio per la chitarra, op. 1, 3rd Part, "Of the trillo on two strings""This trillo - which for its having a longer duration is preferable to the other one - can be executed with index and medium and with thumb and index of the right hand".This book, known as Giuliani's Method, was published in Wien on 1812, 111 years before Ida Presti's birth.The same instruction is given - with slightly different words - by Ferdinando Carulli in his "Méthode complète pour guitare" op. 27, published even earlier, on 1810, in Paris.The list could go on...Angelo Gilardino
