Dear list member,
Does any one have the information of the Concerto
Andaluz by Rodrigo?
Best Regards,
Tong
The question is formulated in a way that I do not
know whether this is the answer you need, anyway: the "Concierto Andaluz"
(careful with the spelling: "Concerto" is the Italian word, whilst in
Spanish it is "Concierto", with quite a different sound) is the
third of the five guitar concertos by Rodrigo. It is scored for four guitars
and orchestra (woodwinds, brass and strings) and it was written on 1967 after
a commission by Celedonio Romero. It was premiered in San Antonio, Texas, on
November 18th, 1967, by Celedonio, Pepe, Celin y Angel Romero (to whom the
work is dedicated) with the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, under the
direction of Victor Alejandro. It is divided in three movements: 1) Tempo di
Bolero, 2) Adagio, 3) Allegretto.
Upon this work, the Spanish coreographer Antonio
created a ballet (1978, Madrid) and since then also the ballet version has
been scored by the composer. Honestly, I cannot say anything about this
version because I never saw the ballet, but I know Antonio and I am sure that
it must be sensational.
It is one of the not many concertos written for
guitar quartet and orchestra.
A curiosity: this Concerto is well playable also
by a guitar trio, with just some resetting of the guitar
parts.
