Linares is the town of Andalucia, Spain, where Segovia was born. The Foundation "Andrés Segovia" has been created by a cooperation between the Ayuntamiento (Municipality), other institutions and the Segovia family (the widow of the Maestro, Marquise Emilia Segovia and his son, dr. Carlos Andrés Segovia), the official biographer of Segovia, don Alberto Lopez Poveda and other gentlemen. I am just back from Linares, where I went to see the state of the works in the building that will host the Foundation. The architect and the workers did an excellent job. The ancient "Casa de los Orozco" - a beatiful house of the end of XVIIth century - is now completely recovered and the repairs are almost finished: within one month, the place will be ready. The Queen of Spain will unveil it in the very next future. The Foundation will become the Museum of Andrés Segovia, where his guitars (Torres, Hauser, Fleta, Ramirez, etc.), his papers, music, books, etc. will be placed. Besides, according to a project of mine which has been approved by Mrs. Segovia and the Mayor, the Foundation will develop a musical program featuring masterclasses with the best musicians of the world (including guitarists), concerts, and also, due to the addition, created by the architect, of a small, marvelous theatre in the garden, Greek theatre. The mortal remains of Segovia will be moved from Madrid, where they presently rest, to the crypt in the Casa de los Orozco. I am confident that within a year the Andrés Segovia Foundation will be ready to receive visitors and scholars.
