Subject: Re: Cross string trills - cross string grace notes?
Hi everyone.
A repost - it seemed not to arrive last time...
Funny how one thought stimulates another. Quite why seeing a train go by
should
remind me that I was playing Granado Danza Espanola 5 last night is beyond
me,
but I recall that I've heard two different interpretations of the A# to B
slurs
in bar one. One is the normal "hammer" and the other is to play the A# on
string 6 and the B on string 5 both with the RH thumb, then release the left
hand pressure a little on the A#. Though the notes start together, the
premature end of the grace note gives the impression they are sequential.
I suppose this technique, which I can't recall every being applied to any
other
piece, is nothing more than a very short cross-string trill!
Regards
Derek Hasted
A.G. This is exactly what Segovia did in his transcription and recording of
this piece.
