I have gladly given place to an excellent guitar solo by Bryan Johanson in
the Bèrben series of 20th century guitar music of which I am the editor.
This piece is entitled "Labyrinth op. 30", and it was published on 1985 with
the fingering of its dedicatee, David Tanenbaum. I have also studied on
manuscript another important guitar solo by Johanson, "Metamorphosis op. 50
(Homage to Jan Sibelius)", which I think is still unpublished.
My most recent discovery in the garden of young American authors is -
incredible - an arrangement for voice and guitar of no less then the whole
cycle of "Kindertotenlieder" by Gustav Mahler. It was created by a very
young, and very gifted, guitarist-composer whose name is Kevin Germain: this
cycle is next to be released and I really hope it will represent the debut
of a new talent. I plan to take care of the publication of his solo guitar
pieces, which are original, inspired and well elaborated.
