Appalachian Guitar Festival
March 17-20, 2005, Boone, NC
The images from this year's festival were taken with new camera so some of the them had to be 'adjusted' in order to see any level of detail. [Ok, so there is the 'new user' factor involved here - I had only been using the camera for a few weeks and had not encountered inside, low light conditions that were present for some of these images...] Many of the concert hall shots wound up being a bit 'artsy' but I find them acceptable for sharing. Note that in some instances I adjusted portions of an images to bring out the sections where less light was present. The images were scaled down to 1024x768, perhaps cropped, and then 'auto-fixed' in Adobe Photoshop Elements. You will need a newer version of Adobe Reader to view the slide shows..
The 2005 festival included performances and master classes featuring William Yelverton, Stephen Robinson, David Starobin, and Douglas James conducting the guitar ensemble.
The Semi-Finalists for the Solo Guitar Competition included: Yuri Liberzon, Robert Sharpe, Giacomo LaVita, Gary Stewart, Johnathan Dotson, Matthew Palmer, Jimmy Moore, Mark Edwards and Matthew Dunlap.
Competition Results: Yuri Liberzon (4th place), Giacomo LaVita (3rd place), Matthew Palmer (2nd place) and Jonathan Dotson (1st place.)
A big THANKS to Doug James (the festival director), the Appalahcian State University administrative staff, music department and students for putting this great festival together for the past decade!
