Americas' Sail '98

Americas' Sail '98 is an international tall ship sailing competition.  The event is scheduled to start on 7/6/98 near Savannah (off of Tybee Island) and end in Long Island, New York.   Ships docked in Savannah for the event include the Eagle, a US Coast Guard sail training ship, the Libertad of Argentina and the Simon Bolivar of Venezuela - current America's Sail title holder. The HMS Rose (no picture) was also scheduled to participate but bad weather kept her away...

This is a spectacular event  for Savannah on the nation's birthday.  These tall ships docked in Savannah (with much ceremony) on 7/3/98 and will be heading for a sailing event  when  they depart.  Visitors along Savannah's River Street have a double treat on this birthday weekend as it is also First Saturday, a monthly event with sidewalk food, vendors, live entertainment and lots of people having a generally excellent time.
