Savannah Classical GuitarAbout this web site
Greetings Visitors!
Questions &Answers:
Q - Why 'Savannah Classical Guitar'?A - Simple - I live an Savannah. The scope of the site is international - the site has become known as a general resource for classical guitar information as well as a regional resource for event information and documentation. Since there is general interest (and a number of international visitors) I also post information about international concerts, guitar festivals and other guitar events.
Q - Where is Savannah?A - Savannah is located on the east coast of the US in the state of Georgia. The Atlantic Ocean is about a ~15 mile drive from the downtown area. When you have the time, take a photo/virtual tour on my photography web.
Q - Are you a guitarist?A - Gee, I hope so! I have been playing and studying guitar playing for 25+ years. My lessons required me to travel which meant a 2-3 hour drive, a lesson and then a 2-3 hour drive home; this required a bit of interest on my part. I attend guitar festivals, concerts and master classes whenever I can - and this also usually requires some travel. Building a music library (sheet music and recordings) also occupies some of my time.
Q - Why did you create this site?A - It started out as an experiment (in the late 1990's.) My background includes music, education, photography, and computing - the site provided an avenue to work with all of these interests. Prior to the days of blogs this type of site was the default. The intent of the site is to provide useful information - blogging tends encourage a lot of gab so I have avoided it so far... :)
Q - Do you offer Classical Guitar Lessons/Instruction?A - Yes, I teach/instruct guitar with an emphasis on classical guitar techniques - my name is Dale Reagan - please use the contact form to reach me. My qualifications: I have studied classical guitar since the 1980's; I have a Bachelor of Music Education (BME degree - I was a voice major); I attend classical guitar festivals and master classes as my schedule permits; I have studied with a number of excellent teachers including Christopher Berg (University of South Carolina, Columbia) and Mark Regnier (College of Charleston.) I am in the phone area code of 912 and close to the 31401 zip code.
IMO - The two most significant aspects of the site are the compilations covering the Segovia Archive and Italian Composer/Guitarist Angelo Gilardino. Maestro Gilardino is responsible for quite a number of wonderful editions of music for guitar (and quite a number of original works for guitar as well as other musical genres.) He rescued a number of important works for the guitar that were among the unpublished pieces for guitar by several composers who wrote works for Andres Segovia. In addition to that he has been a significant resource for guitarists on a global scale; he has shared both his insight and knowledge for quite some time now - "he is a great man" - the words of one of his students - I agree.
The other resources on the site are an attempt to get some use out of the search aspect of the Internet - it is easy to find a lot of stuff but is not so easy to find the right stuff. Hopefully, the pages on this site will assist visitors in locating good printed resources as well as quality links to additional information about music and the classical guitar.
