Recent Classical Guitar News &Classical Guitar Festival Announcements
2012 Spring 2012 - Two fabulous guitarist are scheduled for the 2012 Savannah Music Festival: Milos Karadaglic (Classical guitar, March 30, 2012 at the Telfair Academy - a great venue for the guitar IMO) and Paco de Lucia (Flamenco guitar, April 7, 2012) You can locate many videos of these two artists - here are a few suggestions: 1) GuitarWorld - lessons with Milos and 2) Youtube video of Paco de Lucia. Of course, the Savannah Music Festival includes many more wonderful artists so make your plans now! :)
June 26-July 1, 2012 - It's time to plan for the 2012 Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition which will be held in Charleston, SC (USA.) Among the many wonderful artists is Italian Guitarist Cristiano Porqueddu - Cristiano has expressed interest in performing at additional venues during his visit - contact him via his web site for additional information. May 30-June 2, 2012 The Parkening International Guitar Competition will be held from May 30-June 2, 2012. Eligible classical guitarists ages 18-30 (born on or after May 29, 1982) are invited to apply. The Parkening Young Guitarist Competition will be held on May 29 and May 30, 2012. It helps to identify outstanding young guitarists (17 years and younger) and encourages them to continue their performance careers and study.

The 2009 Parkening International Guitar Competition documentary will debut on Tuesday, July 13 [2010], at 10 p.m. [PDT], on PBS television station KCET in Los Angeles. The program will be repeated on Sunday, July 18, at 2:30 p.m. Pending funding, the next Parkening Competition will be held in May 2012. Details will be announced by December 2010. (I will guess that we might also see this on other PBS stations at some point...)
